BMW diesel gets new second-gen all-plastic oil filter

Half a century ago, dashboards were painted steel. Thirty years ago, bumpers were still made of metal. Ten years ago, almost all body panels - with a few notable exceptions - were still made of metal. But alas, the onward march of plastics has made the material commonplace in every one of these fields, until almost all that is left is the drivetrain and its components.
But a firm called Mann+Hummel has been working to tap into that last reserve of steel and aluminum parts for about five years.
